A Connecticut college with a rich history was looking to create a website which offered extensive outreach capabilities for key audiences of the college, including alumni, parents and potential new students. To achieve this goal, the current website required a major redesign and installation of interactive capabilities, but a stumbling block arose between the college's IT and communications departments. While the communications department had the final decision-making responsibility for the website design and content, they could not modify the current website using the college's existing system.
As a result, the IT department was responsible for the often time-consuming job of making updates to the site. The two departments decided to implement a SharePoint website, which would allow the communications department to quickly and easily make changes to the website while also allowing the two departments to collaborate as needed. The IT department was tasked with implementing the initial design changes, and it soon became apparent that their basic experience with SharePoint did not include a deep knowledge of implementing customizations or changing the look and feel of the website.
The college turned to BlumShapiro, well known for its extensive Educational Institutions practice, as well as a consulting group which offered a wide range of technology services. The college's IT professionals were aware that BlumShapiro was a Microsoft Partner with extensive expertise in SharePoint services and were familiar with BlumShapiro's work. After meeting with the client, and understanding the assistance the IT department needed, BlumShapiro created a customized solution. Over a period of 3 months BlumShapiro architected the overall SharePoint 2010 environment to meet the expected user demand, designed an information delivery framework consisting of custom site definitions and web parts and mentored the IT staff so they’d be self-sufficient by the end of the project.
BlumShapiro’s quick response, deep expertise and comprehensive training helped the college meet its internal deadline for the website redesign and their goal of implementing a website that would help achieve their communication goals. Due to the success of this project, BlumShapiro now has an ongoing relationship with the college for training, mentoring and future development.
