Junior Achievement (JA) One Day Event is part of blum’s ongoing partnership with JA to educate students about financial literacy, careers and entrepreneurism.
For eight consecutive years blum volunteers have participated in this event using JA’s curriculum – which supplements standard social studies curricula that are essential to success in the business world – to teach financial life skills in multiple classrooms for grades 2 – 5 at Webster Hill School in West Hartford, CT. More than 200 Webster Hill School elementary students will be taught how to deal with difficult decisions about how to best prepare for their educational and professional futures.
blum also partners and hosts the JA Career Walk, which provides students from Conard High and Hall High schools a look into the real world of business in West Hartford Center. The program seeks to prepare students for the business world, gain a better understanding of jobs in their community and ultimately be successful in the career path that they choose.
Nearly 30 students, divided into groups from the two schools, visit a variety of businesses – accounting, banking, finance, marketing, retail, food and beverage and others in West Hartford Center. Each business will provide an overview and tour, and discuss the type of occupations they employ and qualities they look for when hiring people. Each visit will last approximately an hour but a full day of activities is planned for the students!
