Q&A

Are your clients only in New England?

Most of them are, yes. However we do have clients across the country that our teams work with and travel to occasionally.

What’s the average number of hours of work during busy seasons?

Depending on the industry, during busy seasons, our audit staff typically work around 50-60 hours per week and our tax staff typically work around 60-65 hours per week.

What types of clients does blum have?

We currently service clients in the following industries: Dealerships, Construction and Real Estate, Education, Government, Senior Living and Long Term Care, Hospitality, Manufacturing Distribution & Retail, Non-Profit, Technology, Clean Energy, Life Sciences, Professional Service Firms and Food & Beverage.

What’s the culture like?

Besides amazing?! For starters, we have a Dress for Your Day dress code, which includes a relaxed level (i.e. jeans)! We also have an open door policy so you can feel comfortable walking into a manager or partner’s office with questions at any time. We trust each other to do what is right, act respectfully and listen generously, own what we say and do and are committed to building leaders. What’s the work life balance like?

We have been proud winners of the “When Work Works” Award these past few years – which is an award that proves that effective and flexible workplace practices can work in organizations of all sizes. We are committed to providing our employees with opportunities for growth and helping them advance their careers in an environment that treats everyone equally, while respecting diversity. We value the importance of everyone feeling successful and satisfied while meeting personal and work commitments.

What other leadership opportunities do you have within the firm?

Our employees at the supervisor level and above can be an advisor to our staff, we have a Women Who Lead Committee, Leadership Academy for our managers, Diversity and Inclusion at blum (DIBS) committee, opportunities to lead staff meetings and we encourage our staff to be creative in other ways to get involved.

How does the firm get involved in the community?

We have a Planned Giving Committee which is a group that seeks out ways to get involved in our communities and plan firm sponsored events.

Are there ways to network with other employees as a new employee?

Yes! Every new employee is assigned a peer mentor who will get them acquainted with the office and introduce them to co-workers. We also hold social events specifically for new hires. In addition, each office has a Spirit Committee that frequently plans events for employees to get together outside of the office.
