The Challenge

OneSource Water, LLC (OSW) is one of the largest and fastest-growing bottle-less water cooler service companies in North America. They pursue a growth strategy that combines strategic selection of acquisitions while organically increasing customer density in existing markets with their field sales force. OSW services over 24,000 customers across 30 markets from New York to Los Angeles. Their customers encompass businesses of all sizes, industries and organizations.

OSW acquired more than 15 companies over the course of five years. This rapid growth and integration of acquired businesses led to a huge increase in transaction volume. OSW sends out approximately 20,000 invoices and receives almost as many payments every month! Another challenge was that the integration of data from so many businesses created data quality issues (e.g. omissions, duplicates and errors). These data quality issues were the root causes of many of OSW’s administrative challenges. The company knew it needed to get control of its data but lacked the skills and expertise to get accurate and mission-critical data from its existing cloud-based ERP system and SQL Server database. This made it difficult to manage the business as it grew. OSW needed to harness the power of its data to propel customer service and profitability forward.

The Solution

OSW’s executive team chose blum to work with them on their data quality challenges. blum’s technology consultants undertook a series of initiatives to help OSW. First, blum performed a software selection project to identify the best ERP software to run OSW’s business. Our consultants met with key stakeholders, developed an extensive list of requirements and led scripted software demonstrations. This thorough approach resulted in the selection of IFS software.

OSW knew that the quality of its existing data was a significant obstacle to a successful ERP implementation and roll-out. After assessing technology partners, they chose to work with blum’s technology practice to implement a data quality solution. Their goal was to eliminate redundant data without impacting the current operations, and to have the data migration process worked out prior to loading test data into the new ERP system. Using Microsoft Cloud-Computing enabled technologies, blum designed and implemented a repeatable process for cleansing data–including customer, installed equipment and part master data.

In tandem with the ERP implementation, immediate attention was given to current reporting needs. Critical management reports required re-evaluation as data quality issues were uncovered. blum’s business intelligence (BI) consultants diagnosed data-processing problems and delivered a complete set of effective management reports that made an immediate positive impact on the business.

The Benefits

OneSource Water now has a fully integrated ERP business application to help them run their growing business. This software will set the standard for OSW’s industry by dramatically improving customer service, sales, back office and the tracking and maintenance of equipment. OSW also realized significant improvements to existing reporting, creating quick wins for the business.
